Dear Stasia:
There are so many beautiful women out there that I fear I’ll never feel as confident as they do. How do I build confidence in myself?
Help, Natt
Dear Natt:
I was reading an article about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis the other day and it got me thinking, have you ever wondered how some women appear to be naturally confident and display grace, seamlessly? I loved watching my own mother walk into crowded rooms. She would almost float in; graceful, poised, and beautiful. She had a way about her that other women noticed.
When my sister and I were young, she took us to a wedding dressed alike with our hair up in signature buns (she dressed us so sweetly), her hair was down and flowing with an elegant curl (as if she just stepped off a movie set). Heads turned and women were eyeing her. As a young girl I was trying to figure it all out. It was more than how she looked. It was how she carried herself (as if the world was her oyster). It was confidence and grace at its finest.
So, I did a little research for you my darling… practice these 3 simple ways to build confidence like a lady, and you will be just fine.
1. Thoughts Influence Actions: stop negative self talk, don’t speak poorly of other women, perfection doesn’t exist, remove yourself from people who tear you down. Get your own self affirmation; (I choose act with poise and grace, I am proud of myself, I am whole, complete and perfect just as I am, right where I am at.¹) Positive affirmations are not egocentric, false, or supercilious; (I fully accept myself and know that I am worthy of great things in life, I radiate love and joy to all I meet, I enter this day with an attitude of appreciation.¹)
2. It’s How You Interpret It: no one will believe you, unless you do, practice manners, be gracious, materialistic items don’t make the person, real beauty absolutely begins on the inside, flaws are perfectly beautiful, find your signature style.
3. Praise Others: ignore what one does wrong, acknowledge what one does right, catch the small things and give praise, building confidence in others intrinsically improves your own, give your time, give your love, service to others, the ultimate in confidence, and grace.
